# Install Harness

> Put Harness on your phone or computer so it opens like an app.

## When you'd use this

You want Harness one tap away, like any other app. Harness is a web app, so you add it from your browser, and it opens from its own **Harness** icon. Everything works in a normal browser tab too.

## Install it

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="iPhone and iPad">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Harness in Safari">
        Go to `app.harnesscalendar.com`.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Open the Share menu">
        Tap **Share** <Icon icon="share" size={15} />, the square with an arrow pointing up.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add it to your home screen">
        Tap **Add to Home Screen** <Icon icon="square-plus" size={15} />, then **Add**. The **Harness** icon appears on your home screen.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Android">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Harness in Chrome">
        Go to `app.harnesscalendar.com`.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Open the menu">

        Tap **Add to Home screen** <Icon icon="square-plus" size={15} /> (on some phones, **Install app**), then confirm. The **Harness** icon appears on your home screen.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Computer">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Harness in Chrome or Edge">
        Go to `app.harnesscalendar.com`.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Install it">
        Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or choose the install option in the browser's menu, then confirm.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## What you end up with

Harness opens from its icon like any app: full screen on a phone, in its own window on a computer, with no browser bars. To remove it, delete the icon the way you'd delete any app. Nothing is lost, because your studio lives in Harness, not on the device.

## On a phone

On a phone, a few screens are laid out differently:

* The [calendar](/docs/calendar#views) shows the agenda only. The Day, Week, and Month grid, the **Scheduling** panel, and [annotations](/docs/annotations) are on tablets and computers.
* The sidebar is tucked away. Tap the button at the top left of any page to open it.
* The **Notifications** bell opens your [inbox](/docs/inbox-and-notifications) as a full page.
* Student, contact, and account pages move their side panel into a **Details** tab.
* Lists hide their search box.

## For your families

Families can add the [student portal](/docs/student-portal) to their own phones the same way. In the portal, the **Add to your phone** option in their account menu shows the steps for both iPhone and Android, so one parent can pass them on to the other. The portal installs with its own **Portal** icon and opens straight to their portal home.
